INDIAN INDUSTRY DELEGATION VISITS KUWAIT:

A high-level Indian delegation, including representatives of several
leading industrial groups and senior government officials, visited Kuwait
this week to strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations.
The 15-member delegation, led by Tata International Limited executive
director H.H. Malgham,  during its two-day visit on March 22 and 23, 1999
met representatives of private sector companies and government officials.

"The objective of the mission was to establish a long-standing relationship
with Kuwaiti business and industry and invite it to look at India for
opportunities for both business and investment," A.C. Patankar, principal
adviser to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which  organised the
trip earlier told India Abroad News Service.

A CII mission is visiting Kuwait after a very long interval. The delegation
arrived in Kuwait after its two-day trip to Qatar.  The CII gave
considerable importance to the visit which can be gauged from the fact that
the delegation  is being headed by Malgham, who also heads the industry
association's Gulf and Middle East Networking Council.

The Indian delegation participated in seminars and establish contacts with
Indian expatriates in Kuwait.
The India-Kuwait Business Opportunities seminar, organised by the Indian
Embassy in the country, was largely attended by the Kuwaiti businessmen.

Officials from the Exim Bank of India, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and
the Indian Investment Centre (IIC) briefed about the Indian economic
scenario and the opportunities for two-way trade and investment.

The delegation earlier called on officials of the Kuwait Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, Industrial Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait Investment
Authority, ministries dealing with trade, commerce and industry and a large
number of companies in the private sector.

The CII industrial mission to Kuwait updated the Kuwaiti companies on the
capabilities of Indian industry to meet its varied requirements of
high-quality plants and equipment, engineering services and a host of
industrial goods which today are produced by Indian industry and accepted
worldwide.

As part of its effort to establish contact with the large Indian
expatriate community in Kuwait, the CII delegation offered its support to
the recently established  Indian Business Council. There is need to provide
the Indians in Kuwait with information on Indian economy and projects for
investment.

Kuwait is one of India's chief suppliers of crude oil, refined oil
products and fertiliser. The principal items of Indian export to Kuwait are
rice, meat and meat products, tea, coffee, fresh fruit, vegetables,
handicrafts, gems and jewellery.

The composition of India's exports to Kuwait has undergone a qualitative
change in the post-liberalisation period.  The new items of Indian export
include pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, equipment for use in refineries
and oil installations, computer software and consumer electronics.

The CII also invited Kuwaiti companies to the 14th Indian Engineering Trade
Fair to be held in 2001.

VIPASSANA MEDITATION COURSE AT MONTE-DE-GUIRIM, GOA

Gomant Vipassana Kendr is holding a 10-day Vipassana meditation course, as
taught by S.N.Goenka in the tradition of U Ba Khin, from April 21-May
2,1999  at St. Anthony's High School, Monte de Guirim, Bardez-Goa.

Vipassana means "to see things as they really are", and is the science of
the interaction between mind and body.  It is methodically taught,
step-by-step, over  ten days, as a process of *self observation*.  In those
ten days a student learns the method thoroughly and emerges from the course
with a simple technique that can be easily practised every day.

It leads to a life of *balance* that helps people cope with every form of
distress especially the stress and strain of modern living.

Those wishing to do this course may contact telephone nos. 278276/213556,
or email: gvk <elinks@vsnl.com>

ON GOA'S POLITICAL SCENE............

"UTT GOENKARA" -  A CALL BY RAJAN NARAYAN, EDITOR OF HERALD
The Chief Election Commissioner M S Gill is in Goa...This is the
opportunity  for every citizen of Goa to tell the chief Election
Commissioner that we do not want early polls in Goa. This is the right
opportunity for every Goenkar to tell the Chief Election Commissioner that
we are sick of the politics of opportunism. (Rajan Narayan/H)

"PLEASE SAVE US FROM POLITICIANS":
On March 23, 1999, several citizens groups told Chief Election Commissioner
M.S. Gill that they would prefer New Delhi to extend direct federal rule
over the costal state of Goa instead of ordering fresh polls.
Voters are campaigning against new elections saying they are sick of
party-hoping politicians, newspapers reported.
Goa, a tiny coastal state of 1.5 million people, has seen three governments
between July 1998 and February 1999 as its 40 lawmakers (MLAs) repeatedly
changed their political loyalties....

Goa-World Team congratulate all the citizens groups and all Goan dailies
and publications in their effort to "cleanse" the political system!

Open Letter to His Excellency, the honourable Governor of Goa,
Lt Gen J F R Jacob PVSM (Retd)

Your Excellency,
I am writing to support extension of President's rule under your able
stewardship in this politically troubled state of ours. I request you not
to hold general elections in Goa earlier than November, which I feel is the
proper time that we should go to the polls along with the four other
states. Waiting till November for the polls will do more  good to our state
then letting those money hungry politicians loose on public money(Rs.50
lakh  goes on maintaining ministers alone, every month!). To have elections
every now and then is fun and joy for these politicians, but is like a stab
wound to our state and nation, which they only praise with flowery words
and defile by their dastardly actions. We, the innocent public cannot bear
this anymore. Once they're elected, they rule for a short period, trying to
impress on the people how good they are. Then they  show their true colours
and  go back to snatching and hunting the ministers chair, cabin, bungalow
and the white red light topped car, nothing else really counts! This is the
joy, happiness and beauty of their life.
I hope you, dear Governor, will accept this humble request from me
which I am sure also comes from every Goan's heart( except from the 40
traitors lying in wait to snatch power!), thereby saving the state  from
the evil designs of these outlaws,
     Long Live The Governor!
     Thanking you,
                                        Yours sincerely,
                                    Seby Cruz Colaco - Margao

- The above letter has also been posted on the GoaNet, and forwarded to the
English dailies in Goa, namely: The Herald, Navhind Times and Gomantak
Times by the writer.

Recently someone from the UK inquired about learning the basics
of Konkani.
Ulysses Menezes's web site - Goa World, address as follows:
                http://www.goa-world.net
This site has a good beginner's lesson in Konkani courtesy of Jaime DeMello.
It  starts  out  with the pronounciation of vowels, then syllables and then
goes on to simple words and phrases.  An excellent resource for someone who
does not know Konkani.
