URGENT APPEAL FOR STEFFI D’SILVA
=================================
A young child 5 and half year old is now in London from Goa, India,
awaiting a very important operation to restore her hearing difficulty
(Bilateral Sensoeural). The operation to be conducted at Portland
Hospital, London is a very delicate procedure and London is among a few
places in the world were this can be performed. This delicate procedure
to conduct this implant called "Cochlear Implant" and rehabilitation is
estimated at around Sterling Pounds 50,000. However the cost has been
reduced to Sterling Pounds 38,000 at the intervention of MP Keith Vaz of
Leicester East, U.K.
Miss Steffi D’Silva, of Anjuna, Bardez Goa is in London after
arrangement were made for her to undergo this delicate operation to
restore her hearing. Daughter of Mrs Sybil D’Silva, she has been
referred by Mr Erwin D’Sa, Chairman of Help A Poor Child, Goa - India.
The family is expecting some funds from a Swiss Foundation
(Enfants-Espoir) for part of the cost. However, there still need of an
additonal sum of some Sterling Pounds 28,000.
Help A Poor Child (UK) and Goan Association (UK) is co-ordinating this
fund-rasing effort and is appealing to all working GOANS in the U.K.
and abroad to help with a donation of Sterling Pound Five Only towards
raising the additional funds.
This appeal for any sum of STERLING POUNDS FIVE ONLY or above should

LAUDAINHA:

Albino Fernandes with the Holy Family Choir members, together with the
parishioners on 8th. September 1998 in the Church compound conducted
traditional Goan Laudainha, colloquially also called "Ladin". This
Ladin was attended by devotees from different nationalities and
different Indian communities who were totally spell bound to witness
this Goan religious tradition. In the midst of metropolitan crowd 2
Konkani Hymns were rendered including "Maria Moje Mae". The traditional
"Ugoddlole Chonne" (boiled grams) were served - courtesy Bombay Boys
Sports Club.
Earlier, there existed a grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the Church
compound, which was dismantled to make way for the new construction.
During the Ladin ceremony the Statue was blessed by His
Lordship, the Bishop of Kuwait, and reinstated for the worshippers to
venerate.

A sporting festival and celebration of freedom through sportsmanship in
the 20th century. The forthcoming Eye Catcher sports Festival '98 will
be the largest sporting event, to be held in any country only other than
