Rosary Ferns' Drama "Sukh Khuim Assa?"

New Konkani Drama in Kuwait “SUKH KHUIM ASSA?”

Renowned Goan playwright, composer and singer Rosary Ferns will stage his 17th Konkani Drama "Sukh Khuim Assa?" at Indian Arts Circle Funaitees on 18th January 2002 at 4.00 p.m.

The topmost artistes of Konkani Stage from Goa & Bombay namely the nightingale Naphie Rod will render 3 solos and 1 catchy duet with comedian Humbert (all new); William de Curtorim 3 solos including the attack on World Trade Centre and Jet speed comedy besides other interesting items from other visiting artistes: comedy King Prince Jacob, Comedy Supremo Humbert, Tragedy Queen Jessie & melody Queen Antonette and Maestro Josinho will enthrall the audience with his superb musical score.

Rosary Ferns from Colva Salcette though young in age and looks, yet he is a longtimer in Kuwait approximately 15 years. He is on record to stage more Tiatros in Kuwait than any other tiatrist and all of his tiatros have been well attended and well liked by the audience. In fact in Kuwait he has created a special and very precious niche for him among the audience for this reason his tiatros are always handsomely attended by the tiatro lovers not only Goans but also Mangaloreans and other Konkani speaking people.

He is gifted in writing tragic stories where his forte lies in composing tragic “cantos”. Such tragic “cantos” one can find only in M. Boyer’s and late Airistedes Dias' Tiatros. Earlier one could get most tragic cantos in legendary Minguel Rod. In fact the greatness of Minguel Rod’s Tiatros surrounded on such cantos and to my knowledge up to now no body came closer to Minguel Rod in composing and organizing such cantos with sad tune.

Minguel Rod could do this because he was according to one source was great admirer of “Motets” about which most of our present day tiatrists are unaware. Fortunately Rosary is having good knowledge of Motets and precisely because of this he can provide very chilling music for his cantos.

Rosary Ferns has also created another diamond niche for him when he created a history by producing the first Konkani CD and that too in Kuwait. As a matter of interest the readers should know that among the expatriate tiatrists Rosary Ferns is the only person who is known to be a great Mandekar – composer of original and singer of original and traditional Mandos. Some of his golden original Mandos are already recorded in some of his Audio Cassettes. In fact Kuwait Goans in the field of Konkani cultural and other activities have done very good job.

The cast that will take part in Rosary Ferns Tiatro is really superb; each of the artistes is having his or her own unique speciality. For example Prince Jacob is the topmost comedian and he has created unique records about which readers must have been aware of; his brother an ace comedian Humbert is unique in his own way for this reason he is become darling of the audience in Kuwait and when both these brothers are on stage they create peals of laughter. Naphie Rod with her melodious voice is a very gifted singer, her major attraction lies not only in her beauty but more on her beautiful voice. Moreover she is the only Goan singer engaged with number of Hindi Film troupes including Mahendra Kapoor besides being a well-known Hindi Playback singer. Jessie Dias is yet another jewel of Konkani stage serving Konkani stage with great pride for the last 30 and plus years. Besides Lourdes Colaco there is no other female artiste and singer having such a beautiful voice as Jessie has in singing tragic songs with sad tune.

Playing tragic roles is her speciality where currently there is no other female can out beat her. Because of her especiality in singing such tragic songs, legendary C. Alvares always opted her voice for rendering duets of tragic nature. Among the female artistes she has created special record by writing and directing her own Tiatros. In ‘Sukh Khuim Assa?’ she will play the most tragic role which Rosary has especially written befitting her talent in doing such roles. Antonette Rodrigues an amateur artiste and very good singer is the younger sister of Rosary Ferns. Being a very good singer whose voice listeners must have heard in Rosary Ferns' audio cassettes will render good songs and featuring in the play doing a good role of a young daughter-in-law. William de Curtorim is known for everyone everywhere for being a great political singer because of which he is feared by the Goan politicians. His hard hitting songs against curruption tinted politicians are admired by the audience and for singing jet speed songs he is second to none currently. His songs in support of Goa and Konkani are worth listening. In this Tiatro as promised by him, he will render all the solos on the latest topics. The musical score will be provided by Maestro Josinho who will be arriving along with all the above named artistes. Josinho is a great Saxophonist, his art of playing Sax is unique, when he starts blowing his instrument audience go wild in the hall, so much so last time when he played for KHK’s Musical Show the Ambassador of India Shri Prabhu Dayal made a point to bow down his head in respect for his superb skill of playing Sax.

According to many Tiatro goers when the above artistes are participating in a drama staged by such a magnificent tiatrist Rosary Ferns, the Tiatro is bound to acquire great height for this reason Tiatro lovers should not miss this Tiatro.

ROSARY FERNS ALL SET TO STAGE HIS DRAMA

United Goans Centre this year is completing its 25 years and during this whole year they will conduct lot of activities. The first activity of their Silver Jubilee Celebration is going to be the forthcoming Konkani tiatro Sukh Khuim Assa? written and directed by well known Goan playwright Rosary Ferns who is working in Kuwait since long time now. In the history of Goans rarely an expatriate organization has succeeded in completing 25 years of its existence but UGC is an exception. 25 years back they formed their organization in Kuwait to promote soccer among Goans and established their first ever competitive soccer tournament in 1979. Some of their founder members are no more in Kuwait either due to death or retirement but few of them are still surviving and going strong one of them is Tony Gonsalves who is the president of UGC.

SUKH KHUIM ASSA? drama is written and directed by Rosary Ferns. During my conversation with him today he says this is my 17th drama which is based on true story. In order to give best to the audience, he said best of artistes from Goa and Kuwait are selected for this drama. Further Rosary said that all the artistes have shown that they are all prepared to give their best and in fact they are all confident of performing their best roles. Rosary further went saying that it is going to be a great pleasure to have such a
galaxy of great artistes both from Kuwait and visiting to perform in this drama.

Regarding side show part of this drama, Rosary said he is fully confident that all the artistes will sing well and satisfy the audience with meaningful songs such as solos, duets and trios. Musical score which is going to be provided by Maestro Josinho, Shahu, Tony and Dennis has already given hint that they will do their best on 18th as proved from the combination they showed during the rehearsals.

While concluding I take this opportunity to thank the organizers United Goans Centre for presenting my drama, all my artistes local as well as visiting, musicians, my brother Fidelis who is doing so much work from behind the curtain, my friends and collegues for helping me to stage this drama to mark the great event of Silver Jubilee.
